First Holy Communion classes are offered to children typically Y3 (age 8) in preparation for and concluding with the Sacrament itself.
The classes are held one afternoon a week (usually Wednesdays) for an hour starting in January and ending in May.
A textbook which outlines the parts of the Mass is used and a team of Catechists present lessons corresponding to each chapter.
Practical lessons are delivered by the priests to help the children understand the Church itself (i.e., the Sanctuary, Baptistry, etc.), and to prepare for their First Confession in preparation for Communion.
The overall goal is to provide the children with a broad understanding of their faith and to help them undertake their First Holy Communion in a state of grace as befitting the Blessed Sacrament.
The classes are led by volunteers from the parish, and we always welcome enquiries from those who are interested in helping in this way.
