The Society of St Vincent de Paul (SVP) is an international Christian voluntary led organisation.
Its membership is opened to anyone who can adopt our ethos.
We believe that everyone should have the means to live life with dignity, should be happy and not be lonely We help anyone experiencing loneliness or poverty in England and Wales or overseas.
“At the heart of our mission is connection. The core of our work revolves around personal visits, where spending quality time with someone can bring the profound gift of companionship and a sense of belonging. We call this befriending.
While the elderly may not always struggle financially, many face the challenges of loneliness or emotional isolation.
To ensure the safety and comfort of both those we visit and our volunteers, we typically make our visits in pairs.”
We are also involved in helping less fortunate members of our local community financially, such as buying much needed household goods, as well as supporting other SVP members working in poorer parts of the world.
We are committed to respecting the dignity of those we assist and fostering self-respect.
We assure confidentiality at all times and endeavour to establish relationships based on trust and friendship.
